Activity 3: Understanding Economic Policies (Activity Completed)
Students have to enroll in this workshop that will be based on understanding the theoretical and practical aspects of Economics in the real world. Based on the assignment that follows this workshop the student will earn a credit.

Activity 4: Health Care Financing
This workshop aims at introducing basic concepts in health economics. It aims to facilitate discussion on highly debated questions in healthcare i.e., how much should a country spend on healthcare. By extension, this workshop gives a lowdown on some of the key models of healthcare financing – the National Health Service model of the UK, the Insurance Model of the USA, and the experiences of the developing countries like Thailand and India. The role of the state as provisioning and a financing agent will be discussed. The discussions end with a way ahead for India, where the insurance model is set out to play a big role despite the pandemic exposing its fault-lines, most apparently in the context of the USA.

Activity 5: Indian Economic Thinkers
The impact of colonialism is still a dominant factor that affects policymaking in India in many ways. Colonialism coupled with the intellectual dominance of western thought were the dominant forces in pre-independent India. During the colonial period, Indian economic thinkers have attempted to analyze how British rule has spoiled the business spirit of the Indian people. The contribution of Indian thinkers must be examined in the light of western dominance and colonial impact. This course makes an endeavor to understand the academic contribution of Indian thinkers during the colonial period and after.

Activity 6: Environmental Economics
This workshop aims at facilitating discussion on the relationship between ecology and economics. It highlights the current challenges to nature conservation. Further, the workshop would introduce the students to models of sustainability and how it could be achieved.

Activity 7a: Mathematical Economics
The workshop will focus on key topics in Mathematical Economics developing mathematical tools required to understand phenomena (static and dynamic) in Economics. Mathematical tools discussed in the workshop such as basics of linear algebra, regression analysis, time series analysis, deterministic and statistical models will provide insight to understand their applications in Economics. The workshop will cover mathematical concepts for building mathematical models in Economics with relevant case studies.

Activity 7b: Guided Projects in Economics of Space
This project work offers an optional module on guided projects in Space Economics to understand the linkages between space technologies and their socioeconomic impacts. Developments in the space sectors drive global economies and India has recently announced a new space policy to bring major structural changes in the Indian space sector. Interested candidates will be offered guided projects (individual/group) to take up topics related to space and understanding the commercial space economy.

What is a workshop/an activity?
- Every workshop/activity would cover 15 hours of work put in by the participant and is counted as a single credit with a grade assigned.
- The Resource persons for the workshops are usually experts from specific fields of economics.
- The resource person will assign the grade for participants based on assignments or some activity.
Who can register?
- Participants can be senior college Xavier’s students from any department who meet the eligibility criteria (if any).
How to register?
- There is a yearly registration fee of Rs. 700 towards the Honours Program which is a VOLUNTARY co-curricular activity (a total of 7 credits are to be earned for final certification across the 3 years of graduation).
- Participants will need to register for the specific workshop on the form link, along with a consent letter and a commitment to pay the fee (Rs. 500/-) when we resume normal college on the physical premises.
- The registration link will be sent across by the EcoCircle a week before the workshop begins.
- Once we get enough registrations, the form link will close and confirmation mails will be sent to participants.
- If students are doing this to earn an Honours credit, then students also need to REGISTER in the Honours program itself.
Please note:
- The grade assigned will be dependent on having attended the entire workshop and submitting the required assignment to the resource person by the deadline.
- There will be no refund on cancellation by the student.
- Seats are limited (around 30 seats per workshop) and allotted on a first-come-first-serve basis.
- Students are requested not to block the seats if they are not sure of their participation. Also, students cannot ‘transfer’ their booked seat to someone else either.
